USAFLUA administers an umpire accreditation program aligned with AFL standards, applying to Field, Boundary, Goal, and Coach accreditations across North America in partnership with AFL Canada. Accreditations are valid for four years from issuance.
Accreditation Levels
Introductory Certification
Formerly Level 0
Entry-level recognition for those beginning their umpire journey.
- Attend a sanctioned clinic
- Observe one match
- Complete AFL Learn First Bounce course
Development Accreditation
Formerly Level 1
Intermediate qualification demonstrating foundational game management.
- Complete introductory coursework
- Three game observations by accredited coaches
Advanced Accreditation
Formerly Level 2
Senior-level credential requiring demonstrated expertise in complex situations.
- Complete Level 2 manual study
- Three game observations by accredited coaches
